Procurement Apprentice - Support Purchasing & Vendor Relations

Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Procurement Apprentice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in procurement and vendor management. As an apprentice, you will receive hands-on training and mentorship while supporting the purchasing and vendor relations functions within the organization. You will be integral in maintaining effective relationships with suppliers and ensuring the smooth operation of the procurement process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the procurement team in sourcing and selecting suppliers for goods and services.

  • Support the vendor relationship management process, including vendor onboarding, communication, and performance monitoring.

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, invoices, and contracts.

  • Help manage the procurement process from start to finish, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.

  • Coordinate the scheduling and delivery of goods and services from suppliers.

  • Assist in analyzing supplier performance and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Process purchase orders and track shipments to ensure timely delivery.

  • Handle basic administrative tasks related to procurement, including filing, data entry, and report generation.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; a degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills within procurement and vendor management.

  • A positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Experience

  • No prior experience required; however, any experience in administrative roles, purchasing, or customer service will be considered an asset.

  • A demonstrated interest in procurement, supply chain management, or business operations is desirable.

Working Hours

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday.

  • Standard working hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Flexible work arrangements may be available depending on job performance and departmental needs.

  • Knowledge of procurement processes and vendor management is a plus.

  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn new software applications quickly.
