Heavy Motor Equipment Operator Department: DPW Forestry Employment<br><br>Status: Full-Time Pay Grade: Grade 10L; Step 05 - Step 08 Salary Range:<br><br>\$22.55/Hour-\$26.29/Hour Schedule: Mon - Fri 40 Hours/Week<br><br>Certifications/Licenses Required: Valid Massachusetts CDL Class A<br><br>license, MA 1C Hoisting License, 2A Hoisting License, International<br><br>Society of Arboriculture Certification or Massachusetts Qualified Tree<br><br><strong>Warden (Preferred), Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)<br><br></strong>Certification, First Aid and CPR Certified. SUMMARY The City of<br><br>Chicopee\'s DPW Forestry Department is looking to hire a Heavy Motor<br><br>Equipment Operator This position operates and maintains all types of<br><br>heavy equipment/vehicles owned by the City of Chicopee. Maintains fluid<br><br>levels and greases equipment as required. Work is performed under the<br><br>supervisor of the City Arborist who assigns work and areas of<br><br>responsibility. This is a 40 hour work week position with mandatory<br><br>overtime and emergency response. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: Operate log<br><br>truck and other heavy equipment. Crew leader as needed. Assists with the<br><br>removal and pruning of city trees. Operates all equipment used in<br><br>Forestry operations. Assists with maintaining city tree nursery. Assists<br><br>with the planting, transplanting, and establishment of trees, bushes,<br><br>and shrubs. Responsible for the safe and proficient operation of all<br><br>Forestry Department equipment and techniques. Responsible for<br><br>maintenance of Forestry Department equipment. Assists with the care of<br><br>all city trees as pertaining to arboricultural standards and the Public<br><br>Shade Tree Laws. Performs aerial work to assists with tasks such as<br><br>Christmas light installation and aerial inspections of public<br><br>facilities. Enforces safety regulations and city policies at all times.<br><br>Maintains communication with supervisors, subordinates, and the general<br><br>public. Participates in continuing education to maintain ce1iifications<br><br>and licenses. Participates in all facets of snow operations. Maintains<br><br>safety standards for employees and public in regards to Forestry<br><br>Department operations. Must be available for overtime, especially during<br><br>weather emergencies. All other related tasks as assigned by the City<br><br>Arborist and/or Superintendent of Public Works. Abide by City of<br><br><strong>Chicopee Health And Safety Policies And Procedures. QUALIFICATIONS<br><br></strong>Comprehensive knowledge of State, Federal, municipal policies and<br><br>regulations as they relate to arboriculture. Working knowledge and<br><br>proficiency in the operation of all equipment used in Forestry<br><br>Department operations. Working knowledge and proficiency in rigging<br><br>equipment and techniques. Skilled position requiring physical ability<br><br>and supervisory skills. Ability to work effectively in emergencies.<br><br>Ability to interpret plans and specifications. Ability to work<br><br>independently. Knowledge of and experience in performing a variety of<br><br>semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks. Working knowledge of a<br><br>wide-variety of hand tools, air tools and hydraulic tools. Ability to<br><br>follow oral and written instructions.
