This role is about designing immersive environments that add value across CBS News & Stations and Sales.<br /> You're not just building scenes. You're shaping how stories are experienced.<br /> <br /> This role lives at the intersection of design, motion, and real-time tech - taking ideas and turning them into something visually sharp, intentional, and built for air. You'll partner with creative and technical teams to build scalable AR/VR tools and infrastructure that enable consistent, reliable storytelling across stations.<br /> <br /> Role Overview<br /> The AR/VR Development Designer conceptually designs and manually builds ARVR environments using Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, and Adobe tools that scale across our group of stations. You'll work closely with creative leadership, producers, and the ARVR team to bring ideas to life in a way that feels modern, clear, and grounded in storytelling.<br /> <br /> We're looking for someone who understands restraint, composition, and how to use the technology with purpose. We are open to considering the office location for this position as any one of our CBS O&O stations.<br /> <br /> Key Responsibilities:<br /> <br /> • Design and execute ARVR environments in Unreal Engine and Cinema 4D<br /> • Take a concept and produce it - lighting, materials, motion, camera<br /> • Create scenes that feel intentional, not overdesigned, or cluttered<br /> • Optimize everything for real-time performance and broadcast reliability<br /> • Know when to push-and when to simplify<br /> <br /> Make It About the Story:<br /> <br /> • Work directly with producers to translate editorial ideas into visual space<br /> • Design with clarity first - what's the story, what matters, what doesn't<br /> • Avoid ''3D clip art'' - everything on screen should have a reason to exist<br /> • Help evolve how we use ARVR so it enhances coverage<br /> <br /> Collaborate Without Overcomplicating:<br /> <br /> • Work closely with the ARVR Project Manager and creative leads to move fast and stay aligned<br /> • Be clear about what's possible, what's not, and what's worth doing<br /> • Take feedback, iterate quickly, and keep things moving<br /> • Support both News and Sales without losing design integrity<br /> <br /> Push the Look Forward:<br /> <br /> • Bring a contemporary design sensibility - clean, intentional, current<br /> • Explore new techniques, workflows, and visual approaches<br /> • Help define what ARVR should look like across CBS Stations - not just execute it<br /> • Contribute to reusable assets and systems that scale across markets<br /> <br /> Qualifications & Skills:<br /> <br /> • Strong design background - motion, 3D, broadcast, experiential, or similar<br /> • Solid Unreal Engine experience (real-time scene building is core to this role)<br /> • Proficiency in Cinema 4D and Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator)<br /> • Good instincts for lighting, composition, typography, and motion<br /> • Understanding of real-time constraints - performance matters<br /> • Ability to work fast, stay organized, and handle multiple projects at once<br /> • Comfortable working with both creatives and non-creatives<br /> <br /> What Sets You Apart:<br /> <br /> • You know when less is more (and when it's not!)<br /> • You're curious about the tech, but not distracted by it<br /> • You care about the story as much as the visuals<br /> • You want to make the experience in ARVR better-not just maintain it<br /> <br /> Why CBS News & Stations<br /> At CBS News & Stations, AR/VR is no longer experimental-it is operational, scalable, and central to how we tell stories.
